Knife Blacksmithing Workshop
At the blacksmith shop with a history of over 100 years, you will craft one-of-a-kind kitchen knife with your name engraved on it. You will learn a whole process to craft a knife from forging to sharpening. The impressive sharpness you will be able to see on that day and the maintenance techniques for long-lasting use will surely be the best memories you will ever have.

The knife-crafting journey begins from the 85-year-old empty warehouse

From the warehouse to workshops, you will ride a bicycle
through the streets of Tsubame-Sanjo with nice and pleasant breeze from Shinano-River.

Mutsumi Hinoura, 4th generation.
He has been in charge of the brand "AJIKATAYA" which passed down through four generations, and his specialty is free forging of special hatchets, which are no longer available due to a decrease in the number of blacksmiths, and which are appreciated by users. He aims to create blades that are hard to chip, easy to sharpen, long-lasting, and easy to use, while at the same time producing new kitchen knives and collaborating with popular designers and animations. The company is also working on the project disseminate Japanese traditional techniques not only in Japan, but also overseas.

I have experience of living in the states. Also, I used to work on the US military base in Japan. I take you around the town, Tsubame-Sanjo and show local spots that cannot be found in guidebooks with making use of my english speaking experience.

Workshop Information
- Period: All year round
- Participation Fee:
- 100,000 yen per person (for 1 participant)
- 65,000 yen per person (for 2 participants)
- The time required: 7.5 hours(excluding pick-up and drop-off times)
- Capacity: 1 group per day(maximum 2 persons)
- Age: 18 and over
Notes
- Participation of persons under 18 years old is not allowed.
- For safety reasons during the manufacturing experience at the workshop, please refrain from wearing shorts and sandals.
- Tours will proceed even in the rain. We provide rain jackets.
- we cannot accept participants who cannot ride a bicycle.
